Most employers do not educate their staff on how their pension fund runs even though its success will determine their retirement payouts. WHY SHOULD I START MY OWN BUSINESS?

You should start a business for 3 reasons:

  1. Business has changed and people can no longer rely on the security of a job for life. Unemployment is rife.

  2. Businesses need to make profits for shareholders and bonuses for management so downsizing is commonplace. The first place to look when cutting costs is people. Many competent employees have become victims of retrenchment exercises. Don’t let this happen to you whilst you don’t have an alternative plan.

  3. Returns on investment are lower than in the past whist the cost of living is much higher resulting in people not coming out on what they earn.

HOW DO I START A BUSINESS WITHOUT FUNDS OR CAPITAL?

With determination and commitment you will be able to do so. There are some clever ways to raise money or to start your own business without money. The owner of Academy of Wealth has written an article in the Entrepreneur magazine of May 2018 detailing the way to do this. The article is very practical and can be applied to any business.

THERE IS TOO MUCH RISK OF FAILURE FOR ME TO START MY OWN BUSINESS

Whilst the percentage of failure for startups is high the risk can be mitigated by

  • Starting the business slowly

  • Staying in your current job whilst you start the business

  • Make sure that you start something which you understand and enjoy

  • Do your market research carefully?

  • Read relevant magazines
